FAREWELL DEAR FRIENDS :(

Hey everyone! As we approach the end of the semester, it is time to say goodbye for this blog journey. The Current Issues in Teaching course has been, by far, one of the most thought-provoking, productive, and sometimes—I am not going to lie—frustrating courses. But when I look back, I am very glad I took this course because it made me make better use of technology both in my daily life and teaching experience. I think the most powerful part of this course was that it really put current teaching approaches into practice. AI-enhanced CBLP, flipped teaching material, AR/VR, and AI-enhanced tasks assure lesson plans... They were all jobs that sounded cool but required effort when put to work. If it had a weakness, it was sometimes the heavy workload. Time management was particularly challenging, especially for assignments with multiple stages :(. The parts that came easiest of the tasks were usually the creating and thinking parts of the tasks. Designing the worksheets, writing tasks, blo...

DOES AI MAKE MISTAKES?

Image
HEY EVERYONE!   The semester's last assignment is here :(((. Our task was designing AI-enhanced material design for EFL high school prep students and an Assure lesson plan related to our material design. Our language skill focus was writing, and designing the AI-enhanced writing task was such an insightful experience. The idea of students first identifying grammar mistakes in a single text on their own, then using AI to analyze and correct those errors, was a really intriguing idea, honestly, thanks to my brilliant teammates İren , Halil , and Mert . This material's main idea was students actively engaging with the task—first discovering mistakes independently, then using AI to verify their answers and understand how those errors could be fixed. This process not only helped them develop a deeper understanding of grammar but also showed them how AI can support language learning.  Overall, combining technology with language learning has, as always, turned out to be a powerful e...

OKAY… HI AGAIN 👋 So here I am again, writing another blog post for the Current Issues in Teaching course—and honestly, at this point, blogging about our assignments feels like part of my personality. Today’s post is all about one of the most enjoyable (and slightly challenging) projects we’ve worked on so far: designing an AR/VR-based city exploration handout worksheet  and an ASSURE-model lesson plan for preparatory high school students. This project was a group work; I and my teammates— İren , Halil , and Mert —together we designed an interactive English lesson that takes students on a virtual trip to Paris, France . Our main focus was creating a meaningful learning experience by combining technology, language skills, and student-centered activities. We were responsible for selecting the AR/VR materials, designing the handout, and preparing an ASSURE lesson plan that clearly shows how and why technology is used in the lesson. You can access our ASSURE Lesson Plan a...

BRING THE LEARNING OUTSIDE OF THE CLASSROOM?

Image
WELCOME BACK, GUYS!! I hoooooope everyone is doing well. I'm here again with our new assignment for the Current Issues in Teaching course, and in today’s post, I’ll be sharing my experience designing a flipped-classroom grammar teaching video narrated by us for preparatory high school students and an ASSURE-model lesson plan . This project was a group effort; I worked with my friends Begüm and Halil , and our responsibility was preparing the content of the video and designing pre- and in-class activities focusing on the simple past tense, teaching students outside of the classroom, and practicing content in the classroom. You can access our Assure Lesson plan and Flipped-classroom grammar teaching video by clicking on the names! Instead of teaching grammar through long explanations, our goal was to create a clear and visually engaging video that introduces learners to the past tense in a meaningful and functional way. We tried to show how Simple Past is not only about memorizi...

LEARNING WITH AI OR CORPUS? LETS DISCOVER !

Image
HI EVERYONE AGAIN!!! I hope everyone is doing okay. I realized that I've never asked how you guys were so I did felt bad as a blogger :((( I'm here again with our first assignment in the Current Issues in Teaching course, and in today's post, I'd like to share my experience designing an AI-enhanced, corpus-based material set and lesson plan according to the ASSURE model. This was a group project; I did it with my other two friends, Begüm and Halil . My part was designing activities according to Ma et al.'s first two principles, focusing on one of the grammar areas for learners: countable and uncountable nouns. Rather than teaching these through traditional rules, this material encourages students to discover patterns through real language use examples—and use AI as support for CBLP.  You can click below the names to see our designed activities and our ASSURE model lesson plan: >>>>>  Uncountable or Countable??   (our first draft) >>>>> ...

WELCOME BACK AGAIN!!! Hey everyone! My name is Sude, and I'm currently studying ELT at Marmara University, and I'm in my 3rd year.  I am here to write that this semester I'm taking a course named ''Current Issues in Teaching,'' and for that course I will be using my blog as a continuum for my ICT course blog. In this course I am taking, we will be studying our understanding of the importance of technology in foreign language classrooms and also current issues in teaching in the ELT field by means of the effects/integration of technology in foreign language classrooms. Thus, I will be sharing what I learned from this course and my assignments with the hope that these may be beneficial for more pre-service English teachers who are studying and ready to learn more!!

GOODBYE...for now or not?

Hey everyone, this is my final blog post for this semester :(  Before I started this semester, I had very limited knowledge about technology integration in English language teaching. I thought that technology was limited to the use of a smart board, PowerPoint presentations, and maybe a few videos. However, thanks to this course, my perspective has completely changed. I realized that technology is not only a tool but also an element that enriches learning, motivates students, and makes teaching more effective. The tasks we completed during the course both informed and made me think about this. For example, while preparing an infographic on “cyberbullying,” I learned about digital safety and experienced how I could use technology for educational purposes. Also, working with Canva and similar digital tools like Google Docs and AI tools helped me understand the impact of visual and written designs in teaching. The reflective writings we did with our peers and ourselves also helped me ...
