DO YOU KNOW JULIET'S THOUGHTS ABOUT...?

Hello, everybody!! For this semester, my final assignment is here. In this assignment, I was given two options: one is chatting with a historical figure, author, or recognized character from a story, and the other is chatting with a chatbot using my voice for 3-5 minutes. I chose the first option and used the Magic School Character AI tool to chat and have a conversation with the character Juliet from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. My task was to ask Juliet at least ten meaningful questions. This process was quite fun and offered a different way of learning that was thought-provoking.

Next, I was asked to do a report according to the chat I had with the character and get feedback from the same AI's writing feedback tool and revise my report according to the feedback that was given to me along with the comments I've made about the suggested feedback given to me and which changes I've made. This process was quite hard for me because the feedback was not quite helpful for me to improve my report, but still it did help me with the mechanics part of my report.

The artificial intelligence tool helped me in this process in many ways. First of all, I started to see Juliet not just as a character but as someone who really lives and has feelings. Her answers to my questions were written both in Shakespeare's language and in the spirit of the character. For example, when I asked about the rapid development of her love for Romeo, Juliet responded with both passion and anxiety, which helped me better understand her conflicting emotions. This encouraged me to think much deeper when analyzing characters.

Looking back on this experience, I see that similar AI tools have great potential in language teaching. For example, by chatting with a literary character, students can not only improve their language skills but also increase their ability to empathize and analyze. It can also be used effectively in areas such as creative writing, drama, and critical thinking.

There are some drawbacks, though. Being too dependent on AI can make it difficult for students to generate their own thinking. Also, AI can sometimes make historical or contextual errors, so teacher guidance is always important. So if I ever think to give my future students an assignment like this, I should plan it carefully and guide them appropriately.

Doing this assignment with AI gave me a chance to connect deeply with a classic character and see things from his/her perspective. It added a different dimension to my own learning process. I believe that when used correctly, AI tools can be very valuable support tools in language learning and teaching.
